A brutal act of sexual violence has been reported from Bhaibonchara area of Khagrachari Sadar, where a 14-year-old Indigenous girl of the Tripura community was allegedly subjected to a gangrape by six individuals belonging to the Bengali settler population.

According to the sources and the victim’s family, the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 PM on 27 June 2025. The victim was returning home from the Rath Jatra (a religious festival) at Jagannath Temple, accompanied by her uncle, Mr. Mohiya Tripura. On their way home to the Bhaibonchara Development Board area, they were reportedly followed by a group of men.

Upon reaching their residence, the perpetrators forcibly entered the home, detained the victim’s uncle in a separate room, and took the girl into another room. There, under death threats, they allegedly gang-raped the girl. The victim subsequently lost consciousness due to trauma and physical injuries.

Overcome with trauma, the victim reportedly suffered a mental health crisis and attempted suicide on the evening of 12 July 2025. She was immediately taken to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital and later transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

In response, the victim’s father, Mr. Kiti Ranjan Tripura (38), filed a formal complaint with the Khagrachari Sadar Police Station on 17 July 2025, in accordance with Section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898. The case has been registered under the following legal provisions:

Case No.: 4, 9(3) Women and Children’s Repression Prevention Act, 2000; including 342/323/506. The Penal Code is 1860.

It is known that the police have arrested four rapists in this incident today on 17 July 2025. The arrested are: 1) Md. Arman Islam (32), 2) Emon Hossain (25), 3) Enayed Hossain (35) and 4) Md. Saddam Hossain (32). Most of the rapists are involved in Chatra Dal politics.

The alleged rapists were identified as: 1) Md. Monir Islam (35), s/o Lal Mia, 2) Md. Arman Islam (32), s/o late Md. Abdul, 3) Md. Saddam Hossain (29), s/o late Mokhlesur Rahman, 4) Md. Sohel Islam (23), s/o Nabin Mistry, 5) Md. Imam Islam (25), s/o Md. Alam Islam 6) Enayed Hossain (25), s/o Ruhul Amin, address- Bhaibonchara Bazar area, Khagrachari Sadar, Khagrachari Hill District.
